SOLDIERS' DEBTS
BUSINESS MEN CONCERNED. (Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCII,'"Wednesday. A request that the "'Gazette" regulation, dated May 2. designed to protect returned soldiers from exploitation ba made clear, was made by representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, who interviewed Sir James Allen to-day. The deputation stated that business people were in doubt as to whether the regulation applied to debts incurred by soldiers after they became civilians again. If it did apply that way it would operate against returned soldiers, because business people, to protect themselves, would insist upon returned soldiers paying cash. The Minister said that the Government wished to protect returned soldiers, but not to injure their credit. He did not think tl ( e regulation would apply Biter they became civilians, but he would ask tlie Attorney-General to have the meaning of the reflations made quite clear.
