BAPTIST TABERNACLE.
RESIGNATION OF REV. KNOWLES K.EMPTON. At a largely attended meeting of the members of the Baptist Tabernacle last i evening Rev. Kuowlee Keinpton made the announcement of his resignation of the pastorate of the church after eleven ■ years' occupancy of the position. His reasons were that he felt increasingly the strain of the work and the demands which such a large church made upon his time and strength. He stated that he had accepted a unanimous call to the Hanover Street Baptist Church, Dunedin, the pastorate of which had just become vacant by_ the resignation of Rev. R. S. Gray. Mr Keinpton retired from the meeting after making the statement, and his letter of formal resignation was read and accepted with very great regret. A unanimous resolution was passed exj pressive of the church's appreciation of : the pastor's invaluable services rendered j during his eleven year.s of office, and wishing him health and blessmg in his future work. The deacons and elders seated that they had given the pastor the.heartiest assurances of their continued loyalty I and confidence, but had very reluctantly ! yielded to his expressed wish in the matter of making the change. Mr Kcrapton's first pastorate was at St. George's Place Baptist Church, Canterbury, England. This he held for a J like term of eleven years, withdrawing in 190S to come out to tlie Tabernacle at Auckland. His resignation is to take effect as from August 31.
