FIGHTING IN THE PROVINCES. massacres' of peasants. THE HAGUE, May 28. Vienna messages show that the Hungarian anarchy is increasing. There is considerable lighting in the provinces, and massacres of peasants are reported because they refused to sell food to the Bolshevised towns. , A party of Red Guards raided a village. The peasants took refuge in a castle. The Bolsheviks brought up artillery, whereupon the besieged surrendered. Their leaders were murdered and crucified on the church doors. A queue of women in Budapest, after vainly waiting at a butcher's shop, tore three Red Guards to pieces. Murdered hostages include three ex-Ministers and two former State Secretaries.— (Times.) A counter-Government has been formed at Arad, in Hungary. The Premier is Julius Karolyi, a cousin of Count Karolyi. Tin , (Jovernment in a manifesto declares it is transitional. Its task will be to repair the Bolshevik ravages, and restore law and order.— (Reuter.)
