SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Mrs. Briffault has returned from a visit to New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs Douglas Lysnar, of Gisborne, are staying at the Grand. Miss Hester Gould, of Christchureh, is at present 6taying at the Grand. airs. H. de Latour, of Gisborne, expects to reach Auckland this week. Mr and Mrs Arnold McKellar and Miss Hay, of Christchureh, are at present staying at the Grand. Mr and Mrs C. Jefferd, of Tokomaru Bay, axe paying a visit to Auckland and staying at the Grand. Mrs. R. George is at present in Auckland, and will be staying with her mother, Mrs. Devore. Mr and Mrs D. L. Tonks, of Hawera,. have arrived i:i Auckland for the races, and are at the Grand. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Holmes, of Pigeon Bay, Canterbury, are staying at the Grand for the winter meeting. Mrs W. Gee, wife of Mr W. Gee, chief postmaster, has arrived in Auckland from Christchureh, and taken a house. The Mayor of Xew Plymouth (Mr. C. H. Burgess) and Mrs. Burgess are in Wellington for the town-planning conference. Mr and Mrs C. O. Teschcmaker, of Blenheim, who have been on a visit to Russell, left Auckland yesterday for Wanganui. Mrs Moritzson, and her son Mr Moritzson and daughter, Miss Moritzson, who I have been staying at Cargen, have taken a bouse at Epsom. Mr and Mrs J. Bayley A'Deane, and Miss. A'Deane (2), of Takapau, Hawke's Bay, arrive in Auckland to-morrow for the races. They will be at the Grand. The Hon. T. and Mrs Wilford, Miss Wilford and Captain and Mrs Wilford, who have been staying at the Grand for a few days, left for Rotorua yesterday. Arrangements have been completed for an "At Home" to be given by the Navy , j League on Saturday evening in commemoration of the battle of Jutland. A i very enjoyable musical programme is ! provided. I Mr. and Mrs. H. Camp Dell, of Hastings, I arrive to-morrow to be present at the ] races. Mr. and Mrs. G. Beatson, of 'Hastings, and Miss Nivian arrive to-day for the same event. Roth parties will be staying at the Grand. | A very successful and largely-attended : dance was held at Cargen on Thursday j evening. The rooms looked very pretty decorated with (lags, and the floor was particularly pleasing. The attendance | | was so large that only about half coutd lie accommodated on the floor at once. Mrs Black acted as hostess and welcomed tile visitors. Supper of sandwiches, coffee and cakes was served, and a very enjoyable evening passed away. Mr Loisel, of Gisborne, accompanied by , his son and daughter and Miss Hatfield, I paid a visit to the Flying School last I , week, and the party made ascents which I ] they described as a most enjoyable ex- . i perience.
