PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
MILITARY SPORTS OAEiNIVAL. One of the days set apart for the celebration of peace is to "be devoted to a military sports carnival to be held Jon the Domain cricket ground. In this J connection a military spprtu council j has been sot up, Captain A. T. Doit, SN.Z.K.. being lion, organieing eecrei tary. A programme of competitions j and military dkplaye has been arranged, 5 | leading citizens having- 'donated many 3 | valuable challenge trophies. The matI ter has been taken up heartily, and V teams are in training already to take Vpart in the competitions. Amongst the "events proposed are tugs-of-war, one I being open to teams of returned sol4 :diers, a second to territorials, and a •j third to senior cadets. Only one team r j is allowed to compete from each Com"ipany, but in connection with the senior V cadets' events, one is for boys from 14 l ;to 16, and another, for lads from 16 to ;' 1S years of age. Physical training j events open to senior cadets only are for j a 20-fruinea challenge cup presented by ilthe Mayor, Mr. J. U. Guneon, in addiction to which other valuable prizes have t.becn donated. Then there is also to be -| an event open to all Territorials, de- » nominated Alarm Artillery. The '! vehicles are to toe in bivouac in battery i ( column, drajr-ropee stretched a s a picket line, and harness to be stacked > three yards to the rear of the horses. t Detachments are to be lying down 10 5 yards t» the rear. On the order "Turn ? out" the puns are to come into action, r Results will be judged on the manner 1 and time in which the duties are car--5 ried out. Each team is to consist of one : sergeant, one corporal, six drivers, and - the gunners. Another competition ie - for machine-pun drill. There will also • be a tug-of-war on horseback, open to 3 returned soldiers and Territorials, also 5, wrestling on horseback, donkey race j for officers only, another for returned : soldiers.
