INFLUENZA.
DOMINION REPORTS. "WELL IN HAND." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. 'A report furnished to the Minister for Public Health, the Hon. G. \V. Russell, shows that 29 cases of influenza were notified between May 19 and May 22. There were five severe cases, two pneumonic in the Waikato, one pneumonic and two severe in North Canterbury. All the rest were mild. The cases in the various health districts were as follow.—Auckland, 7; Wellington. 11: Canterbury, S; Otago, 3. The Minister states that reports received indicate that the influenza is well in hand in the Dominion, and the indications of a recrudescence, which ■vrere rather strong a few weeks ago, hive not materialised. It is necessary to follow a. policy of caution for a little while longer, but directly the position in Australia is sufficiently improved to make it probable that no danger would be incurred thereby, passengers would be permitted to return to Xew Zealand. The Department reports to the Minister that ample stocks of vaccines have Wn prepared and distributed to the various hospital boards, to be available to those practitioners desiring to use them. The Department does not recommend inoculation as the results, where tried, were not convincing enough to justify a general adoption. For the week ending yesterday at noon, from last Thursday at noon, only one case nf influenza in the Auckland province had be<?n reported to the Health Department. This one case occurred at Otorohanga. and terminated fatally.
