FIGHTING THE RAT.
« ANOTHER CRUSADE TO BEGIN. (By Telegraph— rress Association.} WELLINGTON, Monday. In consequence of reports from Auckland and Wellington as to the existence of a rat menace, the Minister for Public Health, the Hon. (i. W. Russell, states that the regulations gazetted in 1011, to prevent or check the spread of plague by rats, are to be put into force, and steps are to be taken to secure rats for examination. Harbour Boards are to be advised to destroy rats in buildings and on wharves, and make the buildings rat-proof, if possible. Masters of ships will be required to produce certificates showing that their ships have been subpected to anti-rat fumigation within six months.
