It is proposed by the (lovernment to provide legislation to enable local bodies to expend moneys for any purpose connected with Ihe celebrations of peace, nnd on war memorials, subject to the provision that no moneys required by law to be used for a specific purpose shall be used for these or other purposes. Authority will also be given to local bodies to borrow money for the erection of memorials, subject to a poll of ratepayers. Amongst the recommendations for Peace memorials are town halls, libraries, swimming baths, fountains, avenues of trees, band rotundas, parks, recreation grounds, and statues.
