PUBLIC SERVICE WAR FUND.

Minister of Internal Affairs, ias chairman of the National War Funds I Council, recently communicated with the Local Advisory Committee of Permanent Heads, on which the Public Service Association is adequately represented, suggesting tlia.t cun- leration bt «r..w given to the objects for which money was raised by members of the Public Service for sick and wounded soldier Civil servants. Tlie Advisory Committee duly met, and on March 7 submitted to a meeting of permanent heads and representatives of the association several suggestions. After discussion it was unatri- : uiously decided to limit the eases in which funds would lie available as fol- | lows:—To provide temporary assistance !to sick and wounded soldiers and their I dependants and the dependants of deceased soldiers, such soldiers having been members of Departments that contri- • buted to the fund-(a) In cases where j pen-ions and other resources are not sufficient for needs: (b) in cases where special circumstances warrant assistance for educational or vocational purposes. It was further agreed that the •"Public Service Journal" be used as a medium for making the provisions of the fund known throughout the service, and that applications for assistance to be made to the secretary of the section of the Public ■ Service Association in which the member I resides, or to heads of Departments.
