The application was recnuiini-uueil to Ihe Minister. \i Hie conclusion of business Mr. Jacksou, representing the local Bnr, snld ho understood that to-day would mark the last occasion on which Warden I'oynton vmuilil preside over the local Court, and he wished to take the opportunity of expressing thanks to him for bis uniform kindness, eoiiriesv. and friendliness. The Bar also appreciated ihe warden's knowledge, especl;il:v on mining law, and the law governing mining conditions, and regretted thnt he was not going to remain In the district as ii- permanent warden. Mr. E. W. E'orrltt nlso spoke. The warden, in reply, said the district was a very pleasant one. and he would have heen glad to remain in It, hud In not been permanently fixed in Auckland, where he expected to spend the remainder of Ids official life. Mr. Young, his successor, would probably require a holiday, or. if the place boomed, as might reasonably l,i expected, Mr. Young would require assistance, in which case he (Mr. Poyntom would l.c very pleased to come down and renew his associations with the Bar of Hi ■ district.
