At a meeting yesterday I lie outlined a period of hard work ahead improving tlie harbour, which was the best and ■safest in the .Dominion, where shipping could trade at a minimum of coat. The port would serve a much wider area than Whangarei district. The necessity might arise for extension of the board'- district, bill i increase of population and trade would enable the board to raise the money | required without striking special rales. I Mr. Blair Mason (consulting engineerl supplied a detailed report on an improveI men! scheme for Whangarei Harbour. I which was received by the board, anil will be considered at a special meeting on May 21.
