ESCAPE FROM RESCUE HOME. FIXE OF £20 BDPOSED. One, Andrew Ernest Kelly, appeared before Mr. -I. E. Wilson, S.M., at the , l Police Court this morning, charged with / assisting a girl named Kosotia Hunter to j escape from the Salvation Army Rescue - Home at I'arnell on December 22, 1018. ) Accused entered a p-lca of not guilty- ] j 'Rosotia Hunter said she had known - Kelly about three months before she was , admitted tn the home. When she left . she went straight to Kelly's place at ( Freeman's Bay. She stayed there during , the day, and was introduced to another ( man. for whom she was to act as house- i keeper, as "Pearl Smith-" Later she , told this man that if Kelly persisted in , coming to the house she would have to , leave. I ! In reply to accused, witness admitted) , that tiic former did not know was | ( g-oino- to escape, and was net present. at the Inimc when she left. I , Thomas Henry Averill said he Had,, known Rosetta Hunter as "Pearl Smith,"j ( having employed her as housekeeper. ( I Accused gave evidence to the effect that he had no knowledge of the girl's escape. He met her at 11 o'clock at night. " e he begged for shelter, saying she had had a row with her sister. ne • gave "tier shelter, and the next day told her be had a friend who wanted a | j housekeeper. He introduced her to ; Averill, and he engaged her. Prior to this he did not know she had been committed to a home. i In reply to Senior-Sergeant Lanigan. I accused admitted that he had known the j girl slightly before. His Worship appeared somewhat sceptical of the story told by accused. He ' was convicted and fined £20. ALL'S WELL THAT END'S WELL. Rosetta Hunter was then charged with having escaped from the Salvation Army ' Home. Mr. Oliphant, who appeared for ' her, stated that she admitted having escaped, but Averill had signified his willingness to marry her, and she aH'o was willing to marry him. In that case it appeared that she could get probation, and she might be sent back to the home in the meantime. i His Worship made an order for her return accordingly, pending an application , for probation.
