NEW COALFIELD.
THIRTEEN MILLION TONS. OF VERY BEST QUALITY. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) GREY'MOUTH, this day. For some time past boring operations have been iv progress at Nine Mile, and results have far exceeded anticipations. An analysis of the coal shows it is of the very best quality, and superior to that obtained in the Liverpool mine. As steam coal it will prove equal to the best in New Zealand. The area covered by the new field is very extensive. The outcrop and boring show at least thirteen millon tons of coal in sufficient supplies for twenty years. The mine is three miles from Runanga railway station, the country flat, and there are no engineering difficulties in the way of railway construction. The mine will be put in full working order within twulve months. A large meeting was held at Runanga last night. Tlie Mayor presided, and Mr. Holland. M.P.. addressed the meeting. A resolution was passed: " That iv view of the fact that the Elizabeth mine is practically worked out, the serious shorti age of the Dominion supply, and famine prices, the Government be urged to proceed to the development of the Nine Mile seam." This will be forwarded to tlie Acting-Premier, and Minister of Mines.
