THE STEAMER BESSA.
DAMAGE NOT EXTENSIVE. (By Telegraph.—Prees Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday, i Lloyd's surveyor, Captain A. Walker, examined the eteaoier Beasra to-day. The only damage found woe on tho port side of No. 1 Tiold above the ballast tank. Ho water wae in the other holds. A few plates were eMghtly dented, thirty rivets were started, and several frames w.ere fractured. Aβ a precautionary measure two divers have started to make an examination of the -whole of the exterior of the hull. It is expected that temporary repairs will take aibout ten days.
The Norwegian Consul, Mr. A. W. Newton, as chairman, Captain Petersen, of Wellington, Captain Lindberg, of the barque Titania, and Captain Nystrom, of the ship Transocean, assessors, held a Consular Court to-day, and heard the evidence of the officers end men on duty at the time of the mishap. They also examined the log book, and checked the ship's course.
From the evidence adduced the Court concluded the Ship was outeide Chaffer's passage, and did not stop when the rock was touched. The Court made certain recommendations, but could give no finding.
