ONLY THE REVOLVER LEFT. p John William Kenny, or Kent (47), ' who had been caught lifting boots from the doorway of Miller's shop in Victoria Street on Saturday week, and had been then found in possession also of a stolen 1 tin of tongues, as well as of a revolver, fully loaded in all chambers, came up for sentence. It was stated that inqu.ries ' had elicited that the man had n-jver previously been in trouble. He had been I working "in Dunedin, and had left his wife and daughter there and had come to Auckland for health reasons, and to visit relatives. He had a considerable sum of money on him, and took to drinking, and eventually squandered all the money. Apparently he had stolen the boots and tongues to sell for mora money to buy more drink. He had already pawned a £40 watch, a present from his father. Mr. A. Moody stated that he had been instructed by the man's relatives ,who were anxious that Kent should return to his family in Dunedin. The facts a3 related by the police were practically correct. Kent had a large sum of money, on him when he came North, and he 6aid he carried the revolver to protect his money, though apparently it wasn't a revolver that was needed for 6Uch protection, as the man just squandered it in drink and racing. Kent had had a good deal of trouble with his health, and had undergone a number of operations. Accused was convicted, prohibited, and ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months, if called on, and with a condition that he should return immediately to his family. Tue'revel.er was confiscated. » Leonard Jno. Baker (22.1, for committing an indecent act in Hie bar of the Hobson Hotel, was sentenced to seven days' hard labour.
