STRIKES ON THE RAND.
Q-ROUBLE WITH THE NATIVES. A SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT. (Received 10.5 a.m.) CAPETOWN, April G. The native position on the Rand appears more serious. The authorities at Johannesburg arrested the ringleaders, end a large crowd of natives congregated in the precincts of the Court. When the Court adjourned the natives made a concerted move towards the entrance to the prisoner's yard. The police, armed with staves, charged, and made many arrests, numiiers of natives being injured. Natives at Vreiledory also caused trouble. After holding a meeting they assaulted a European. Mounted police were summoned, and speedily mastered the situation. Later a collision occurred between Europeans and natives, three natives beiug shot and several whites injured. A later Johannesbury message states th.it the strike Ims been settled, and terms are being drafted- The native position is well in hand, and all is now quiet. — (Renter-)
