OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN BARRETT. Another of the old gold 6eekers, Mr. John' Barrett, died at Christchurch, in hie 84th year. Deceased was born in Roscuuimon. Ireland, and went to the Victorian goldflelds in 1859. He came across to the Otago diggings in 18G2, and then followed the gold rushes on the West Coast. In 1875 he removed to Christchurch, where he was licensee of an hotel until 1889, when he went farming. Twelve years ago he returned to Christchurch to spend the rest, of his life. Deceased wae a member of Courtney Town Board, and while at Hokatika of the Borough Council.
