RAILWAY CONTROL.
HALF-SHARE BY EMPLOYEES. A REJECTED PROPOSAL. CAPETOWN, March 26. In the Legislative Assembly, Major P. T. Cresswell (leader of the Labour party) moved in favour of the reeonstitution of the Railway Board, so that it should consist of an equal number of Government nominees and railway servants. The Minister of Railways declined to accept the motion on the ground that it meant giving 35,000 railway employees equal representation with the whole of the rest of the community. The proposal, he said, meant ruin and disaster. Hu announced that the Government was establishing a conciliation board to deal with hours, pay, and cognate matters.
Another amendment was moved in favour of an advisory council equally representative of the Government and the railwaymen.
The debate was adjourned.— (Reuter.)
