HOLIDAYS IN THE CITY SCHOOLS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Mr 1-iilly seems aggrieved that be was not consulted by tlie Education Board or by the Headmasters' Association. Now, sir, why should Mr. Lilly be consulted about an entertainment that the Hon. Jas. Allen remarked that every child should see. The Headmasters' Association also recommended the Board to allow the schools to be closed. If Mr. Lilly had been asked instead ot the Board he would, I expect, have consented to the schools being closed without consulting his committee or the Board either. He certainly would not have consulted his committee, for he hae never done so, giving rise to a lot of the discontent. Mr. Lilly does not represent the householders, as when he attempted to take the children to public pictures in defiance of the Board the householders out of a few streets in the city schools district cent in 400 signatures against their children being taken to public pictures in school 'hours, although they would not object to pictures of educational value in the schools. If time had 'been given 1000 signatures could have been sent in against it, but the 40G was within about GO votes of what Mr. Lilly was elected "by, therefore it was a vote of no-confidence in him by the householders. MY. Lilly illegally often gives holidays from 1 p.m., and sometimes all day, without consulting his committee or the Education Board.

I am, etc., J. J. EDGAR, Member City Schools Committee.
