MUNICIPAL AFFLUENCE.
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star,") WELLINGTON, this day. The Wellington city engineer, ■Mγ. W. H. Morton, leaves this week for a tour of America, with a view to collecting information on modern municipal methods. In acknowledging the toast of his health at a farewell gathering, Mr. Morton stated that a tremendous amount of work hud been done in the city during the last fourteen years. Improvements were constantly carried out, but since 1004 none of the work in the principal ' parts of the city had been done with loan ' money. He suggested that in future extensive improvements should be car- | ried out by loans. The explanation cf J this remarkable record of municipal financing of drainage and street improvement, etc., is that the corporation has an annual income of £20,i500 from 58 acres of reclaimed land on the harbour front within the city;
