MR HOLLAND DECLINES. (I!y Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A representative and influential deputation waited upon the Mayor. Mr Holland, to-day, and urged him to reconsider his decision not to be a candidate for the Mayoralty. Mr Holland replied that he could not ccc his way to reverse his dec-isiun. Mr J. A. Frnstidv eaid the deputation ■was not prepared to accept Mr Holland's refusal. He had had the work during a very strenuous time while the war and the epidemic had affected the city, lie should be Mayor during the visits of the Prince of Wales and other distinguished persons. "The matter just einiply stands there," the Mayor replied. "There is a deadlock, and as far as I am concerned 1 still adhere to my decision to retire."'
