MOTHER AND DAUGHTER SHOT
ADELAIDE AFFRAY. ADELAIDE, March 10. The wife of a soldier. Mrs. Agnes Ellen Roach, of John Street. Hindmarsh, and her two-year-old daughter were shot by a man on Saturday afternoon. "William Loader (45), labourer, has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder. It is believed by the police that Loader went to Mrs. Lorimer's residence, where Mrs. Roach was residing, on Saturday afternoon, and asked to see Mrs. Roach. Mrs. Lorimer told him that she wae not in. Loader became infuriated, and demanded to see Mrs. Roach. A scuffle ensued, during which, it is stated, he drew a revolver from hie pocket. Mrs. Roach came on the scene, and both women tackled the man, struggling to get the revolver from him. The weapon went off. One bullet struck Mts. Roach in the leg, and another hit her child near her mouth. Mrs. Lorimer, it is believed, knocked the revolver out of Loader's hand. The two patients, who are in Adelaide .Hospital, are not believed to be in a serious condition. Private Roach, who has been absent on active service for three years, has just returned to the State, ami is now undergoing a period of quarantine. Loader resided in Adelaide apart from his wife. He states that he is a returned soldier.
