WELCOME TO PIONEERS.

THE DOMAIN ARRANGEMENTS.

COMMITTEE SET UP.

A meeting of the executive of the Auckland Patriotic Association was held yesterday to consider arrangements for the reception or the Fioneer Maori Battalion, due at Auckland on April sth. The Mayor, who presided, said that it was proposed to entertain next of kin of the returned Maoris, to the number of about 300, at the Domain. This number would include about SO representatives of each of the principal Maori tribes of the North Island- It was proposed to approach the Government and ask for free railway passes for next of kin. On disembarkation at Auckland the Maori troops could be marched up Queen Street to the Domain, where their own people would give them a reception in Maori style.

The suggestions were approved by the committee.

Captain Vercoe and Me=3rs. Tau Henare and Uru waited upon the committee as representatives of the Maoris. The arrangements were explained to them and they expressed their approval. At the Mayor's suggestion, a small committee, including members of the Patriotic Association and the Maori representatives, was set up to go more fully into the matter.
