MAKURA DELAYED.
TROUBLE WITH FIREMEN. After being delayed for about three hours, the Royal Mail steamer Makura sailed for Vancouver shortly after eight o'clock last night. The vessel was timed to sail at five o'clock, and at that hour everything was in readiness to sail. It was then found that a large number of her firemen were missing, and the vessel was obliged to (wait until these men returned. At seven o'clock, when it was thought that all the firemen were on board, the vessel proceeded to an anchorage off the wharf, where she remained until shortly after eight o'clock when she sailed. The vessel was to have loaded about 9,000 carcases of meat, but owing to trouble at the Westfield Freezing Works, this was not shipped. The Makura took a large cargo, including flax and gum, and in addition was heavily booked with passengers, all of whom embarked at this port.
