Mr. Kennedy Black,, musical-director of "The Dandies," has been appointed manager of the Palace Picture Theatre, Gisborne.
Captain Tilley has been appointed manager of the Taratahi soldiers' farm. He had charge of the farming operations at Tauherenikau.
Mr. Matthew Alexander, M.Sc, of Invercargill High School, has been appointed agricultural instructor at Greymouth.
Colonel H. 8., Potter, C.M.G., O.C. Auckland Military District, returned from Wellington by the express yesterday morning.
Mr. J. H. Howell, 8.A., B.Sc, director of Christchurch Technical College for thirteen years, has accepted the position of director of the Wellington Technical College.
Mr. George Jobberns, 8.A., of Biccarton, and Mr. Patrick Gallagher, - 8., Ag.S., of Melbourne, have been appointed instructors in agriculture to the Otago Board of Education.
Mr. J. Hay, Chief Electoral Officer, Auckland, leaves by the express to-night for Wellington. He expects to be away several days, attending to matters. connected with his department.
The Canterbury Education Board hade.ided to recommend to the Minister of Education the appointment of Mr. J. E. Purchase, M.A., as .principal of Christchurch Training College.
Mr. F. Burgess, of the staff of H. Williams and Sons, Ltd., Napier, leave* Auckland by the. Niagara for a vis\fc to England, after an absence of 44 years. He hopes to visit the United States *_d the Continent.
Mr. Norman A. Crimp was admitted as a solicitor at the Supreme Court, by Mr. Justice Hosking. on the motion of Mr. H. H. Ostler, who stated that Mr. Crimp was returning to civil life after two and a half years' active service.
The Hon. W. H. Triggs. M.L.C., editor of the " Press," prior to leaving Wellington, to join the Ruapehu, en route for England, was presented by the literary staff with- k gold-mounted ebony walking • stick.
Mr. George Howe was probably one of the oldest competitors at the N.Z. Bisiey meeting, Trentham. He was a member of the late Wellington Old Navals Club, and made his debut as a shot at Bridgewater, Kelson, in 187!). He has attended the championship meeting ever since its inception.
Captain H. B. Wheeler, N.Z.S.C., who was formerly group commander for the North Canterbury Group, and returned to New Zealand' recently, after nearly four years' services with the Imperial Forces in France, lias been appointed Area Officer for Banks . eninsul. and surrounding country, and Adjutant of the Ist (Canterbury) Regiment. Captain Louis M. Nathan, who leit Auckland four years ago to offer his services to the Imperial authorities, aud was detailed for duty with the Arm. Service Corps in France, returned by the Manuka, Captain Nathan, wl_» spent nearly all his service period on the Wo.tern front, where he obtained a captaincy in the Imperial Forces, was presented on his return with a handsome token from tbe staff of Arthur H. Nathan, Ltd., of which firm he is a director.
