Under the will of the late Mr John Connal a bequest of £1500 is left to the Board of Governors of Canterbury College to provide two scholarships of the value of £20 each, tenable for two years, to be awarded iv connection with such of the following subjects as the board mar determine:—(English, Latin, French, Mathematics, and History. The bequeot will be augmented by £1000, on the death of a bene-ficiary. The sum of £1000 has been left to the V.M.C.A. (Christehureh), which will also TwneSt to the "tent of a further £1000 on the death of a beneficiary. St. Andrew's College, Christchureh, benefits to the same extent as tae YjM.C.A., while the Salvation Army of New Zealand receives £1000, and "the Sailors' Institute, Lyttelton, f2OO.
