Dr. V. McGahey. of Eotorua, is staying at the Central Hotel. Dr. and Mrs. A. Paterson. of Christchurch, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. W. G. McDonald, chairman of the Board of Trade, is staying at the Central Hotel. The Rev. E. Palgrave Davy, of the S.Z. Children's Mission, has returned to Auckland from Dunedin. Chaplain R. S. Watson, M.C., has accepted the position of assistant to the Rev. G. H. Balfour, First Church, Dunedin. Mr. L. T. Reichal, who died at Island Bay recently, was formerly Government electrician, and invented Eeichal's automatic fire alarm. Major H. A. Cooper, of the Imperial General Staff, who hae been Genera] Staff Officer for the Otago Military District for some time past, leaves New Zealand for England next week, to resume duty in the Imperial Army. His Excellency the Governor-General has been promoted to Knight of Justice of the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England. This is the higher grade of the Order, which no one can be appointed unless he has served as Knight of Grace or is a member of the Royal Family. Captain D. McLean, late of the Hospital ship Maheno, who left for Sydney by the mail steamer Niagara on Thursday, is to assume command of the steamer at the New South Wales port for her next voyage to Vancouver. Captain J. T. Rolls remains behind on holiday leave.
