NAVY'S BIG BILL.

£60,000,000 FOR 3 MONTHS. PAY OF THE SERVICE. OPPORTUNITY FOR PROMOTION LOXDOX, March 13. During the debate on the Xaval Estimates Mr. Walter Long, Fir?t Lord of the Admiralty, stated that a vote of £60,000,000 would suffice for three or four months. The Government hoped then to be in a position to review the situation. Many ex-service members participated in the debate. The chief topics were the inadequate pay of officers and men and the necessity for enlarging the opportunity of the lower deck to obtain commissions. Mr. Long said the Government took a sympathetic view of both demands. * Dr. T. J. MeXamara, Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Admiralty, announces the abandonment of the building of four battle-cruisers, freeing the slips for merchantmen.
