Tbe Irish situation is -described as being extremely grave again. The Queen of Rumania and her two daughters have arrived in London. German Government forces have captured Lichtenburg, overcoming the Spartacis.s in Eastern Berlin. The Russian Bolshevik Governmen. has established a new Ministry to conduct international propaganda. Hon. G. W. Russell stated to tbe Epidemic Commission that 1153 Maoris were registered as having died of influenza. The construction of America's new cruisers has been delayed until experthave decided which is the beet type of ship to adopt. •Mr. R. P. Greville., kauri gum superintendent for the Lands Department, has been appointed Commissioner of the new Northland land district. A meeting of Remuera ratepayers last night decided to ask the City Council to establish swimming baths at Orakei for the benefit of the suburb. Negotiations are in progress with the object of inducing the Native owners of Taumarunui town lands to sell their interest- to the Government. The Wellington commercial travellers effort yesterday on behalf of the mercantile marine resulted in ever £5000 being raised.—Press Association. The temperance lecturer who was supposed to have been assaulted at Roxburgh, Otago, now says that he was under a delustion about the matter, and that his injuries were due to 'a fit. The Blackball coal mine dispute has been sctted, the Miners' Federation admitting that the men were in the wrong, and the mineowners undertaking to reinstate the dismissed workers. Thomas Higgie, a man well known in Wanganui, age about 75, when sitting in the sea water tower grounds yesterday afternoon, experienced a sudden seizure, and expired in a few minutes. —Press Association. A number of workers' organisations are said to be coming forward with claims for increased wages in consequence of the recent decision of the Arbitration Court, to use the cost of living as a working basis. Complaint is being made that the Imperial Government has reduced American freights considerably, but is maintaining Australian and New Zealand freights at a high level. It is considered by exporters that some action should be taken by the Government. It was stated at a meeting of Remuera ratepayers last night that the Bilworth trustees were cutting up the frontages of the hockey ground into building sections. It was decided to ask the City Council to kjeep its promise to intervene m the even, of any proposal to subdivide the property. Ladies.—When buying skirts, have tho very best.
