OBITUARY.
MR. RAWSON, S.M. iSy Tc'egr&ph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Mr. Rawscn, S.M., who has been seri- ' oualy ill tfor some time, died last night. An impressive gathering of all members of the Bar took place this morning prior to the sitting of the Supreme Court. .In the absence of the president of the Law Society, r. A. Swarbrick (senior member of the Bar in the district) expressed the sincere regret of the legal profession at the death of Mr. Rawson, and appreciation of the services rendered by deceased, who had earned the esteem of the whole of the legal profession. They had the utmost confidence in him, and kindly feeling towards him. By his death the Bar had lost an able, keen and highly-esteemed member. Mr. Justice Cooper said he held Mr. Rawscn in the highest esteem and regard. He had known Mr. Rawson for many years, and had many opportunities of. becoming acquainted with his capacities as a magistrate, and his upright conduct and character as a man. Mr. Rawson had the confidence of the community and the regard of the profession. He was a sound lawyer, a good magistrate, and an excellent citizen. His Honor believed that deceased's unselfish conduct during the epidemic, when he had laboured at the hospital, had something to do with his illness and death. Mr. Rawson was always a highly conscientious man. His Honor joined members of the Bar in expressing sincere sympathy with Mrs. Rawson and relatives in their great loss. Perhaps the knowledge of the esteem in which Mr. Rawson was generally held might be some consolation to them in their great sorrow.
