GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE.
1 ~ EXPENDITURE AUTHORISED, NELSON, Wednesday. The matter of assistance for Ne» Zealand sea fisheries was mentioned by Mr. T. A. H. Held, M.P., before the Industries Committee on Monday, and there has been published a Press Association message giving the recommendations made to the Northern Fisheries Commission by Mr. F. L. Ayton, chief inspector of fisheries. In conversation with a reporter to-day, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister for Marine, said many of the suggestions made by Mr. Aysott had not yet been considered* by the Cabinet, but he had already obtained an. authorisation of £2,000 for the purchase of fishing material, nets, etc., at Home, J in order that direct assistance could be given to those engaged in the industry. - He further stated that the secretary of marine was preparing on order to be dispatched to the High Commissioner, giving necessary details. Mr. Wilford also stated that the grant of a very substantial sum for the provision of cool storage was not only necessary, but would have to be undertaken as soon a* funds could be provided.
