WARTIME WAGES.
MINERS AND RAILWAYMEM. WANTED AS PERMANENT RATE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON', March 12. Mr. George Gibson, president of the South Wales Coalowners Association gave evidence before the Miners Commission that miners' average wages throughout the United Kingdom in 1014 were 8/10. In November, 1018, the average was 17/ a day. ~" The railways executive offered railwaymen 20 per cent above the pre-war rate as a standard wage. The railwaymen demand that the full wartime rate shall be the permanent wage. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
