HIS HOME TTES SEVERED. Georpe B. SongTiurst, a youth, admitted that he was an idle and disorderly person -without lawful visible means <> f mrpport. It was stated that the nun wafl of weak intellect, and had been wandering about the city, sineo one of liis parents had died of influenza, havinfj apparently been cut adrift frrta his home ties hy the riroumstanccp. }le was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on, a condition ■bein;; Uiat he should remain at tbe Salvation Army Home, wlievo the authorities had ajfrced to look after him. CASE FOR A KEEPER. A man S3 years of ape admitted that on December 25 he assaulted a small Ixiy. The circumstances stated were that the old man interfered suggestively with a little boy who was playing in Western Park, but in view of the oW man's crcat a?e, and physical frailty, with the probability that senile decay had affected his understanding, it was dec-med better to make the charge one of ordinary assault. The old man's friends had arranged to have him cent to a homo, where he would have no cp-po-tunitv of -wandering* away. Hie Worship agreed that this was the wiser course, and convicrted and ordered the old man to come up for sentence wheu called on, with the expressed condition that he slioold be kept at the home specified. Bortha Curtis (40) admittivl that la«t night tshe stole a lolly jar and contents, \aJue 20/, from (!. Benrd's shop in Kariingaliapc Road. Shi: had entered the lolly -shop about 0.30 p.m., when the proprietor was in a room behind the shop, and he came in on hearing somebody there. When he. asked her what she -wanted she did not reply, but went out. Her demeanour made him suepi- < iours, and he looked round and missed a fancy jar of the small shot-like lollies known as "hundreds and thousands." lie followed the woman, overtook her, and askod her if she had taken the jar of lollies. She denied the theft, but when a cmistaWe was called and the jar was found on a door-step close by, she acimitTed it. The police knew nothing whatever about the. woman' 6 antecedents.
Accused was fined £">. ALLEGED SHEEP-STEAILNG. William George Hnnter (2G), who had been arrested in Auckland yesterday by Constables flourley and Taylor, was charged that at Wbodleigh, near Tuakau, on February 2.S last year, 'he stole 20 sheep, value £30, the property of lienocy and Sutton, and was remanded to ap|H'ar at Pukekohe on Wednesday, next week.
