DEVONPORT COUNCIL.
The Dcvonport Borough Council met last night. Deputy-Mayor W. K. llowltt ruled tbe meeting.
The thanks and appreciation of the Council was accorded to Councillor Stone, who has donated a public seat on the Cheltenham Beach. The meeting was of opinion that more of these seats would be an ad\antage.
The Di-puty-mayor spoke of an arrangement with the Garrison Artillery Band to play on Cheltenham Beach next Sundny afternoon.
Discussing the cutting of trees on Cheltenham Terrace and Tnluul Road, the chairman said residents were complaining of the unsightly cuts that were made. Accordingly a letter was authorised to the Telegraph Department usking that when the trees were trimmed again they should be done carefully.
A communication concerning the hydroi electric scheme was received from the absent Mayor, in which ho snid Cambridge 'and Hamilton men were in conference, and meant business. Arrangements were being made for a representative visit to Horn Hora, to be followed by a great public meeting at Hamilton In the evening, and In the course of a few days local bodies will be formally Invited to send representatives.
Tie Deputy-Mayor spoke of the "Our Day" appeal campaign. He invited councillors to be present at the meeting this evening to discuss Devonport's part. He said Devonport had no need to be ashamed of its work in the past for the Red Cross, and he wished the meeting to be large and enthusiastic.
With the correspondence was read a letter from F. Norris, organiser for the National Service League, containing particulars of a "Lest "We Forget" scheme of Memorial workshops for soldiers on the lines of that instituted by Lord Roberts In. England. The Idea was endorsed.
