DEATH OF KAINUKU.
The Rarotougaii native, Toeta Kainuku, who was convicted of the murder of a shepherd at Manapeehi in July, 1016, and who caused sonic sensation in the Auckland district on July 21 by escaping from the .Mental Hospital in company with Norman Keals, another criminal patient, died at the hospital on Sunday. The severe oxposure he suffered before his recapture, three days after his escape, had greatly weakened his health.
