ERUPTION IN ICELAND.
A VIOLENT OUTBURST. FLAMES THOUSANDS OF FEET HIGH. RESCUING THE FUGITIVES. (Received 11.10 a.m.) COPENHAGEN, October 14. The Iceland volcano Katla is in violent eruption, after 58 years' quiescence. Flames are rising thousands of feet above the glacier-clad mountain, and the country for hundreds of miles round is illuminated.
