Massey) and Minister of Finance (Sir j •Joseph Ward) arrived in Auckland by i' the Niagar tliis morning on their return from attending the Imperial and War ! Conferences in England. The steamer j tied up at the Queen's wharf about halfpast ten o'clock, but owing to the sickness aboard the port health authorities took careful measures for disinfecting the vessel and her company before allowing anybody ashore, so that it was past two o'clock when the Ministerial party, which included Mr. ¥. D. Thomson, private secretary to the Prime Minister, and Mr. H. O. Rrowne, private secretary to Sic Joseph Ward, were able to leave the ' ship for the Grand Hotel, where they are staying while in Auckland. Fortunately the two Ministers and te.hir party escaped the influenza epidemic which has attacked a large number of the passengers and crew of the Niagara on her voyage down the Pacific, and return in good health and spirits after their five months' absence to tackle the work of the Parliamentary session, which opens within the next fortnight. The Ministers were greeted on landing by the ' Mayor (Mr. .1. H. Gunson). the chairman of the Harbour Roard (Mr. H. D. Heather), their colleagues the Hon.-?. Sir James Allen, W. D. S. Mac Donald, Arthur Myers, and Dr. Poroare, Mrs. Massey, Lady Ward, and a number of friends and members of the Legislature.
