AMERICANS DRIVEN BACK FROM BAZOCHES.
STRONG COUNTER-ATTACKS NOW IN PROGRESS. (Received 0.15 a.m.* WASHINGTON, August 2ft. (lentrral Pershing reports that the Americans were forced to retire from Bazocher. on the north bank of the Vesle, l!l miles north-west of Khoims, and Fismette, :i miles to the eastward of Hazoclies. Ijnter reports state that Tinted States troops have ga.incd ground round lia/.oches. The Germans captured Fismette alter all night lighting and many hand-to-hand encounters. The Americans are now counter-attacking around Fismette. They are advancing with the French north-west of Juvigny, six miles north of Sr*ssons.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
