GERMANS MASSING ON THE BAPAUME LINE. VERY WEAK EN GUNS. BRITISH RE-TAKE LOST DUMPS (Received 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, August 28. Reuters correspondent at Britisli Headquartere, writing this morning, says:—""The Germans arc massing ou the Bapaume - Geudecourt-Guillemont line, but they now remain conspicuously weak in guns, having lost so many ana withdrawn others far to the rear. The Germans are putting in bandsmen, sanitary units, and road menders to reinforce the fighters. An amazing jurablu of unite has been swept up from wide distances to try to stem the tide. W> captured immense quantities of nenequipment. Stonm and Miraumont yielded vast quantities of engineering stores, whilst in many places we have retaken whole ammunition dumps abandoned during our March retreat, tnese proving of inestimable service to the swiftly-advancing gunners aa well as relieving the transport branch of one ol its heaviest taskii. It is quite 'understandable why the Germans are resisting eastwarl of Arras, j as the Allied success here will constitute a serious strategical menace.— (Reuter.)
