The Red Crrjss shop was in charge of the Girls' Realm Guild on Friday and Saturday, under the president. "Miss Ziman, and the committee consisting of the Misses Wright, Bcws, Walsh, McDonald, Taylor. Kaston, Clark, Henderson and McEldowio.

A very successful dance was held on Friday evening in the Parish Hall. Devonport, in aid of the funds of the Devonport Patriotic League. The arrangements were made by a committee consisting of Mesdames Garland. GordonCummings, Napier. Peacocke. Mi.ses Ansenne, GoTdon-Cummings, and Woodham, with the assistance of Miss Gondic and Messrs. Goldwater, Jull. Lacy, Lunn, Longdill, McArthur, McKenzie and Graham. The hall had been decorated fov the occasion with flags, greenery and streamers of red, white and blue by Mr. H. Jull and Mr. J. McArthur, and made a pretty picture when filled with the bright frocks of the dancers, of whom between three and four hundred were present. Supper was spread in the lower room, the tables being decorated by Mesdames Napier, Peacocke. Garland, and Miss Goudie, in a scheme of gold and blue. Golden daffodils filled the vases, while purple violets occupied small finger glasses, and long streamers of the Shore colours were laid across the tables. The supper was served in three relays, and dancing was kept up with vigour throughout the evening. Amongst the dancers were a number of returned men, and everyone on the floor appeared to spend a thoroughly enjoyable time. £33 was taken at the door.

A successful dramatic evening was held last week at the Grafton Library as one of the winter course of entertainments which was arranged by Mrs. C. C. Forsyth. Dr ttnatic items were contributed by the following ladies and gentlemen: Misses Olive Dean. Belle Mynott, Tudor Hughes-Jones, Madge Stubbs, Lilla Lury, Evelyn Fergusson, and Gladys Jones. Messrs H. Hemus, and J. A. Faulkes. Orchestral items by Dr. Cox, and Mr. H. Hemus. Songs by Miss Jessie Bailey. Jliss Maud Plummer acted as accompanist. An outstanding feature of the programme was a duologue from Henry VTU., "Defence of Queen Katharine," by Mrs. C. C. Forsvth and Mr. H. Hemus.

At a recent meeting of the Dunedin Hospital Board, Miss E. K. Field, of Cl_ri__crrur<_, was appointed senior medical sister. Sister Miles surgical tutor, and Dr. Gladys Montgomery anaesthetist.

Miss G. Helen Rawson, lecturer in the Home Science Department, Otago University, has applied to the council of the "University for leave of absence from December next to May next, she having been awarded the Mary Ewart travelling scholarship by the trustees of Newnham College, Cambridge, and desiring to go to America to visit the chief universities where home science is taught, to compare the course in American intsitutions with our own. The council congratulated M_s R.W6OH upon the honour won. aud granted the leave asked.
