Charles James Kollett, farmer, iTe l'ahu. appealed aa the last man ou a farm of ".lo acres, lie could not obtain labour. Adjourned for ino.iir.v. Wader Herbert Collesoll, farmer, Karamu. appealed on similar grounds. He was working. wi,_ the assistance of his wife, a properly of li'lo acres, milking 70 cows. Adjourned for a month, for inquiry, the company to endeavour to replace Herring, whose case was considered very different from that of Thompson. Exemption sine die was granted Edwin Poster, engineer, 1 Ohlnewai, for whom the Firth Pumice Company also appealed. Robert Henry Wait appealed for his son. Robert L. S. Walt, farmer. Kaipakl, as he could not manage the farm without bis assistance. Adjourned for three mouths. Tbe Treloar Milking Machine Company appealed on behalf of an apprentice, C. S. Gillies, who was in the lust year of bis Indentures. The chairman pointed out that the company could give him his certificate now, or he could finish his apprenticeship when he returned. Leave was granted till loth (>e(ober. The same company also appealed for Oliver C. Schotield and W. Campbell, litter, who were essential to them as milking machine manufacturers. One of the principals gave evidence that these two men were the most essential men on Hit- company's staff, ln granting exemption sine die, the chairman stated that these men were engaged ln an important work, which had been responsible for roleasine. a large number of men for service. The company, , however, was ordered to immediately report lo the authorities if tbe men left tboir employ. Mclean and Co.. Auckland, appealed for A. Walch, engaged iv the contract for tbe erection of tbe Raglan wharf. Evidence was beard at a previous silling, decision being deferred for further inquiries. After perusing certain correspondence the Board dismissed the appeal, but granted exemption till Dth January, by which time the pile driving will be completed. Decision was reserved in the case of Robert B. Anderson, farm hand, Te Kanwbata. Archibald Crawford, farmer, Hamilton, and George Henry Meikle, farmer, Itoto-o-rangi, were each granted exemption sine die. Horace Mathieson. farmer. Taotaoroa. claimed that he was engaged in an essential industry, and that being called up would inflict undue hardship upon him. He had sold bis farm, hut tbe purchaser had been adjudged bankrupt, and he and his partner had experienced considerable difficulty in recovering possession of tlie property, which comprised _.'J_ acres. Ho had arranged to milk 50 cows. Adjourned for inquiry. Mrs Davies appealed on be- . half of her husband, who had enlisted voluntarily, arid asked that he be put back into his proper class, C. Granted, leave being granted till September. John A. Bell, farmer, Maungatautari. previous to purchasing a farm of '178 acres, had been rejected for service. He was a married man with two children. He had now disposed of 14-1 acres of his farm, and wgs working the remainder without assistance. In granting an adjournment for three months, the chairman reaiarked that it was a unique case, inasmuch as appellant had done his utmost to be sure of his position in regard to service before taking on additional responsibilities. Thomas Ncill appealed on behalf of Percy Senior, blacksmith. Ohlnewai: he bad endeavoured to replace him, but bad failed. The Board recognised that blacksmiths were scarce, and that the public interest must he considered, sine die exemption being granted. Harry Coop, well borer. Huntly ("for whom G. Gilberd appealed), was granted leave from CI camp until October 21. Tbe appeal of Alfred E. Ray. sharemllker. Cambridge, was adjourned for further inquiry. Stephen S. Allwick. farmer, Hnntapu. was granted leave until January 0, as were also Henry A. Kelly, farmer. Te Mala, nnd Samrel James Dahb. draper's assistant, Hamilton. James D. Bruce, farmer. Tnuiwha. and William C. Wallace, farmer. Fenconrt. having been classed C*_. their appeals were adjourned sine die.
