I . CHELMSFORD IN A GALE. (By Telegraph..Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. • Captain Grigg, master of the steamer I Chelmsford, reports that the trip from i Auckland to YVhangarei was one of the worst he has experienced on the coast Shortly after leaving Rodney Point the Chelmsford struck an east south-east gale, which practically threw the boat on her beam ends. There was no opportunity of running for shelter, and she had to plug through. Captain . Grigg! I managed to pick up to Frenchman light j ; with difficulty at 11.30 pan., enabling the northern connection to be caught at Oncrahi. The Chelmsiord will leave at 10 p.m. and proceed if the weather moderates.
