Mackenzie, inspector of stock in Christehurch, returned to Christchurch yesterday, after an official visit to Oxford. He reports thai; the condition there continues to be very serious. Large numbers of sheep are snowed in, and, as there is no country clear of snow, there is Ho place to take the sheep, even if they are rescued from the deep snow. A fanner told Mr. Mackenzie that he had 600 hoggets in the snow, and would he very thankful if 300 were saved. Another fanner had had 2700 sheep in the country Behind Oxford, and had saved about ISOO. The deaths are increasing daily, even amongst hand-fed sheep, because they have become weaker, and are unable to climb out of places that would have offered little difficulty a few days ago.
