EXPRESS ENGINE DERAILED.
SLIPS ON MAIN TRUNK. The express train that left Auckland for Wellington at 7.10 p.m. last night ran into a small slip between Taringamutu and Taumarunui about 1.35 thie morning. Eight wheele of the engine were derailed, and other small damage done to the engine. No one iwas injured. The slip was cleared snortly after 6 ajn., B and the train was taken to Taumarunni, I" ■where a fresh engine was attached. The c ' train left Tauinarunui at. 6.55 a.m., five ° hours late, and will arrive in Wellington t about 6 p.m. to-night. 5 A slight slip also occurred at Piriaka, 8 182 miles from Auckland, but this was c cleared in time to avoid delay to trains, h Very heavy rain was experienced in a j the Taumarunui district last night. a Our Te Awamutu correspondent telegraphs: "Heavy rains of late have caused the rivers around Otorohanga to rise considerably, in many cases over the roads. Had it not been for Government action in clearing creeks of willow trees the conditions would have been serious around Hangiatiki statioiA As it is, eettlers out back are unable to get in. On Sunday night the south bound express ran into a serious slip between Taringa- j motu and Taumarunui. The engine was derailed and the cow-catcher smashed.! t The train reached Taumarunui five hours late. Slips occurred just at the rear of | ■ the spot where engines turned over twoi c years ago. There is also a very had j crack in" the railway embankment, cans-j* ing some uneasiness. The Auckland- j bound passenger express is running at j present on time. ,
