SUDDEN DEATH.
REV. S. J. SERrELL. The many friends of the Rev. S. J. Serpell will learn with deep regret of his sudden death at Morrinsville yesterday, at the age of fifty-nine years. Mr. Penpell was one of the first Australian ministers sent over to New Zealand under the exchange system inaugurated about a quarter of a century ago. He ■was Moderator of the New Zealand Methodist Conference four years ixgo, and was in the second year of his charge at Thames. Mr. Serpell is well known throughout Xew .Zealand. At various times he has been stationed at Graiton, Newmarket, Masterton, Timaru, and Taranaki Street, WeJlington. Death occurred after a comparatively ibrief illness. Our Thames correspondent wires: — "News was received this morning of the sudden death at Tc f Aroha of the Rev. S. J. Serpell, Methodist minister at Thames, in his sixtieth year. Deceased wae highly esteemed throughout the district, and very general regret is expressed. He had been in failing health for some time. A son, Dr. Serpell, was i killed at the front some months ago. ' The Rev. Serpell leaves another son, who is farming near Te Aroha, also a daughter. His wife died in Maeterton I sumo years ago,
