JCews has been received in Melbourne, that the A.U.S.X. Line steamer Kyarra, I formerly a popular passenger vessel engaged in the Australian coasting trade, was torpedoed while acting as an Admiralty transport. ; The Kyarra was one of about seven inter-State passenger vessels, aggregating approximately 44,5fiS tons, to be requisitioned early in the war for use as hospital ships and transports in conjunction with the large fleet of Englishowned traders between the United Kingdom and Australia.
