BACK TO THE NAVY AGAIN.
ADMIRALS ON MINE SWEEPERS (Received 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, June 21. Naval records since the outbreak of the war show that large numbers of officers on the retired list offered their services to the Admiralty, including some 20 admirals, vice-admirals, and rearadmirals. When the needs # f the country appealed these officers took lower rank than they previously enjoyed, finding work as temporary captains in the Naval Reserve aboard patrols and mine sweepers. Six admirals who so rejoined the Navy have already gained the Distinguished Service Order, two at least receiving this distinction for sinking enemy submarines. (A- and N.Z.)
