I THE BTfRNS-PHIXP STEAMER MAKAMBO. SYDNEY, June, . The steamer Makambo is ashore. on Lord Howe Island. The captain sent a wireless message to-day stating that the pumps are keeping the water under, control. He hopes to refloat the vessel next tide. All the passengers have been safely landed. A tug, dispatched from Sydney with refloating gear, should reach Lord Howe Island to-morrow. . The Makambo is a steel screw steamer of 1,159 tons gross, built in 1907 by the Clyde Shipbuilding Company, of Glasgow, and owned by Messrs. Burns, Philip, and Co., of Sydney.
