CORPUS CHRISTI PROMISE.
AND GERMAN GRATITUDE. MURDERED IN CHURCH. LONDON, June 2. ' The "Geneva Tribune" states that, allegedly fearing air attacks, the German authorities forbade Corpus Christi proccHsiona in the Rhine towns. Cardinal Ilartmann had, through the Pope, received the British promise not to make an air raid on that day, but forbade processions in Cologne. Replying to criticisms of the Foreign Office, Lord Robert Cecil said the whole Cabinet was responsible for the agreement to give Cologne immunity on Corpus Christi Day. It was not even proposed by the Foreign Office. Lord Robert Cecil agreed to the decision in view of the absence of military objection. When the Germans bombed a British hospital on Thursday an American surgeon who was operating on a British officer was killed. The removal of the wounded was most difficult owing to the staircase being demolished. A bomb on Thursday fell into the Women's Corps camp in France, killing , several.
