SOCIAL AT TAKAPUNA.

A social gathering was held at Takipnna last night to welcome home Bombardier Kric Blomfield. eldest son of Mr W. Blumheld, Mayor of Tafcapuna. Bombardier Blomfleid Left New Zealand with the Main Korce as a driver in No. 1 Battery of tbt original Field Artillery Brigade. He landed at Ualllpon with the first guns that wtre put ashore, sud remained without a break till tbe evacuation. He afterwards proceeded to 'France, and was wounded in the Sorrane battle a n<l twice gassed. At present be Is home on duty furlough, and leaves again for the front In a few weeks. Mr A. Harris, ■X..P., presided over the gathering, in th« unavoidable absence of Hon. £. w. Alison, M.L.C- After tie toast of "Tbe King," that of "The Army and Navy," coupled with that of the late Lieutenant-Commander Sanders, V.C, was proposed by Mr W Dnncan. Mr W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade ■Commissioner, proposed "The Allies and Overseas Dominions," to which Mr Loekto Gannon responded. Another toast, "The New Zealand Parliament," was proposed by Mr W. Blomfield, Mr Harris responding. An address was given by Rev. W. G. Monckton, and musical and other items were rendered by Messrs E. Davies, I*. Rainger S. Blomfield, Patrick, Egan, Wartirick, Walton, Lilllcrap, Bodle, and Moss.
